In the adrenaline-fueled arena of combat sports, where moments become memories in milliseconds, Wasserman Boxing has transformed their content game with ScorePlay's revolutionary media platform.

Since partnering with ScorePlay in August 2023, Wasserman Boxing has powered over 20+ events and captured more than 40,500 assets (including over 12M minutes of footage) that fuel their 200+ fighters' digital presence. The platform faced its ultimate stress test during the 2023 Prime Card event: KSI vs. Tommy Fury, where Wasserman's team managed content for some of social media's biggest personalities before a record pay-per-view audience and sellout Manchester crowd.

The challenge: speed, volume, precision

With 15 years behind the lens and a recent focus on combat sports, David Cavan's collaboration with Wasserman Boxing shows how the right technology transforms not just workflow efficiency, but the very essence of sports photography itself.

Combat sports present unique challenges for media teams:

  1. Delivery of content is time-critical to leverage immediate post-fight momentum

  2. The volume of assets is enormous, with thousands of images across 20+ fighters

  3. Content requires selective distribution adapted to stakeholder needs and permissions.

However, existing tools & processes at Wasserman resulted in hours of David doing all the manual tagging, sorting, and distributing images: "The way you had to set up previously is you would probably have had an empty Dropbox folder that everyone would have had a link to," he explains "Everyone sees every asset. There's potential photos that we might want to hold on to and not make public immediately, but that takes time to sort of filter through them."

Transforming boxing photography workflows

From ringside to social media in seconds

Wasserman Boxing leverages ScorePlay's platform to create two specific content workflows that deliver professional imagery at social media speed.

For regular fight nights:

  1. Photos are captured and tagged in-camera

  2. Between rounds, selected images are downloaded to a laptop

  3. Quick edits are applied with presets

  4. Images are uploaded to fight-specific folders in ScorePlay

  5. AI automatically tags assets, which are then distributed based on these tags.

For high-profile events - like the KSI vs. Tommy Fury Prime Card -, photos are tagged ringside between rounds, instantly processed with signature presets, and delivered via FTP directly to ScorePlay's Live Mode. This creates a continuous flow of professional content throughout the event, and allows for fighters, promoters, and sponsors to receive instant access to their specific content.

"It's amazing whenever you're ringside and you're spinning a lot of plates and you're not being bombarded with people asking 'where are the photos, where are the photos?'" says Cavan. "This steady rhythm of only having to upload into ScorePlay... it's amazing."

Beyond efficiency to artistry

Processing 1,000+ images per fight night, from both internal and external photographers who can upload directly to the platform, ScorePlay instantly tags athletes and sponsors, delivering the assets to fighters & partners alike before the fight is even over.

This technical efficiency has liberated David to capture the soul of combat sports: a father's pride, a fighter's vulnerability, moments of raw triumph.

"ScorePlay freed me to focus on artistic vision rather than technical processes," explains Cavan. "I can capture emotionally powerful moments like Tommy Fury and his father embracing after the KSI fight, revealing the family pride and pressure at stake." These human elements have become David's signature, powered by a workflow that handles the technical so he can focus on the emotional.

Making fighters your best ambassadors

ScorePlay has also revolutionized the approach Phil Kirkbride, Head of Press and Communications at Wasserman Boxing, uses with his team, particularly with influencer boxers. “When I came into the business, assets were shared through a mix of unadapted tools… it felt like a constant waste of time and a battle to get individual links to athletes and constantly being peppered with requests from left, right, and center to send images."

Phil adds: "The speed and ease of athlete access has been our biggest win," notes Kirkbride. "The app has become second nature to them."

This proves essential when managing content creators who operate at social media speed: "These influencers live in a digital-first world. They expect their professional images waiting for them by the time they reach the changing room, not hours later via email links."

The ScorePlay advantage: an essential tool for a high-impact media strategy

Our AI-powered platform instantly routes fight content throughout the boxing ecosystem: fighters receive performance media before leaving the ring, social teams publish in real-time, promoters access press materials immediately, and sponsors automatically receive branded content.

"ScorePlay's tagging system revolutionizes our workflow with uncanny precision, finding fighters in billboards and automatically tagging sponsors," says Cavan. "Fighters have their best moments waiting on their phones before reaching the changing room, exactly when engagement peaks. This is critical for content creators who live by social media."

ScorePlay has become Wasserman Boxing's competitive edge, serving as the central hub connecting departments across time zones. "It's been hugely beneficial," confirms Cavan, while Kirkbride adds: "Boxers primarily sign with us for promotion, but we offer something unique: a content system that delivers assets directly to them, something no other UK promoter provides. This give Wasserman a powerful selling point.”
